Matthew Wise, the owner of Wise Nurseries, graduated from Abraham Baldwin Agriculture College (ABAC) in 1995 with three degrees in Environmental Horticulture, consisting of Landscape Design, Ornamental Production, and Landscape Management. Matthew's collection of plants during high school and college grew large enough to establish a wholesale nursery and landscape design and installation business which opened in January 1996. Prospering after its first years in the landscape design and installation business, Matthew decided to begin increasing the nursery's inventory. In 1998, he doubled the inventory, which has been steadily growing ever since.

While building his business in Statesboro, Georgia, Matthew also began instructing at Ogeechee Technical College in 1999, where he helped develop the Environmental Horticulture program, educated students, and also consulted with newcomers in the trade about establishing new businesses in the Horticulture industry. He remained there until 2002, when he decided to completely dedicate himself to the advancement of his nursery.

Matthew's wholesale nursery flourished, and he was able to expand his business influence and clientele. Wise Nurseries began to broker and distribute plant material to four surrounding states in the southeast. Moreover, he built his inventory to include perennials, annuals, ornamental plants, tropicals, and a wide variety of trees. Wise Nurseries currently has one of the widest selections of inventory on the eastern coast, and Matthew strives to offer many varieties in each plant type.

After the Nursery's successful and consistent growth, Matthew decided to further expand Wise Nurseries by opening his first retail garden center in 2004. When just two years had elapsed, the business had again grown beyond its means, and Wise Nurseries moved to an even larger facility and better location. The Garden Center, which includes five acres and a knowledgeable horticulture staff, offers an organized and informative atmosphere that numerous customers frequently visit.

Wise Nurseries has completed over 1,000 landscape projects in residential and commercial settings and has been in operation 11 years. The nursery now consists of a wholesale division that caters to the needs of landscapers and contractors and a retail division that assists the public through resources, consulting services, and landscape design. A member of the Georgia Green Industry Association and the Southern Nursery Association, Wise Nurseries, through Matthew's consistent efforts, has established itself as a leading nursery in the southeastern region. He has developed a customer base and established a favorable reputation thus creating a dynamic company: Wise Nurseries.
